Obituary earned their place as one of the most significant death metal bands a long time ago. For most metal fans, the band's second album is an undisputed classic, not only for the music but also for the album art. Obituary is essential death metal. With the new album, the band sounds like a classic band should: confident, strong, and recharged. The music here never betrays signs of weakness or laziness. Most fans have likely heard "Ten Thousand Ways to Die" or seen clips of the animated video for it online. It's a delightful celebration of the band's heavy sound set alongside a playful zombie adventure. The band's humor is infectious. It never hurts, especially after thirty years, for the band members to poke fun at themselves. My favorite track on this album was easily "Brave," a killer opening track that has a very exciting tritone at its heart. After that, I really enjoyed "Straight to Hell," "Kneel Before Me," and "Turned to Stone," especially the raspy vocals at the beginning. With this album, Obituary continues to deliver strong, uncompromising, death metal. Highly recommended.
