Filippo Landi is an Italian pianist with his first solo album under his belt titled Upside Down released in 2016. Landi's pedigree is impressive especially when you consider his young age. He graduated from the Florence Conservatory of Music and has been involved with many musicals and film scores. On Upside Down it is just Landi and his piano, no studio trickery or effects, only his chords and notes against a blank musical back drop.
Landi is a wonderful pianist with a great sense of melody and fluidity. He knows when to show restraint, especially in the poignant title track, the ethereal beauty of "Dreams" and the beautiful melody in "We Were Friends". In the Italian ragtime toe tapper "Ragtime Moment" and the inspiring "Hope" the playing is more upbeat than introspective and the melodies are impressive.
Upside Down is a beautifully played album. When I want to completely relax and lose myself in the music I will certainly return to this again. An impressive debut from a musician mature beyond his years. Recommended.
