MoRkObOt: GoRgO

Take a quick glance at the helter-skelter skyline created by the band and album title… then strap in, it's a hell of a ride… With their fingers constantly poised over the caps-lock key, Italian avant-garders MoRkObOt return with their twin bass attack. The only other weapon at their disposal is a drum kit and they ain't afraid to use it. Although they will rigidly resist the temptation to do much simple with it. With distorted basses constantly poised to poke, prod and smash and the drums already halfway down the cliff edge, the math metal methodology defined is a devil may care romp that sprouts from precision and craft. Little is left to chance, yet little sounds orderly and placed.

It's a fine line and one sometimes abused into a blur of style over style and substance over substance, the posing and posturing desperately eschewed often resulting in a different type of posturising posing altogether. It's twisted, it's dark and yet it's massively straight ahead and dazzlingly bright. If there's a left turn to take, you know this lot will take it, at full speed and with their stabilisers unwisely residing in their dad's garage. It's crazy, loony – the band members are called Lin, Lan and Lon – and yet the sheer we ain't gonna do what you think we'll do, often leaves you knowing exactly where this will be headed.

You could categorise this as not for the masses. You could also suggest that only a select few will understand it. Whatever its motivations, it's seldom that such uncompromising music manages to become background noise so easily. Love it or hate it? Probably.
