Power Quest: Face The Raven

Power Quest were once seen as leaders of the noughties British power metal scene. However, after five albums of prime, keyboard led but guitar heavy mayhem, they split amid tales of financial woes and record label disinterest. The band's mainman, Steve Williams, moving on to become a part of Eden's Curse.

After a three year hiatus the Quest are back and with Gavin Owen (guitars), Rich Smith (drums) and Paul Finnie (bass) rejoining their band leader, they are ready to Face The Raven. With new guitarist Dan Owen adding to the ferocious attack and Dendera frontman Ashley Edison manning the mic, the first comeback offering from the British power metal veterans is a rather stunning three track blast.

The title cut begins with a mighty riff and bold keyboards, however it's the unexpected howl from Edison that really turns your head. Mix a young Bruce Dickinson with Geoff Tate and Stu Block (Iced Earth) and you'll get a handle on just how impressive he is. The singer's previous work with Dendera has always been impressive but little prepares you for what he shows he's capable of here. "Blood Alliance (2016)" – a re-recording of the title track from the band's 2011 album of the same name – repeats the trick; energy and verve spilling from the speakers, while "Coming Home (Sacred Land II)" combines this line-up's obvious energy with a more melodic bite.
