Cipher System comes real close to blowing the shingles
off the Cape Cod and sending an entire trailer park
straight from Omaha to Lake Charles but in the end
doesn't really succeed. Part of the problem may be
that the band tries too hard to adhere to the
aesthetic set forth by its heroes Dark Tranquility and
In Flames. At a certain point you begin to why the
band didn't strive for something a little more
original, work just a little bit harder at have some
songs that had a clear presence of the outfit's flesh
and blood. Cipher System isn't all that bad,
understand, and if you're especially new to metal,
hungry for all the bands you can get your hands on,
then OK. But those whose palettes are a little more
developed might pine more for something that's a
little more Frank Lloyd Wright than a Sears catalogue
prefab. Oh, and what's with that New Age outro?
