Tokyo Motor Fist: Tokyo Motor Fist

What do you get when you put together Danger Danger singer Ted Poley, guitarist/producer Steve Brown of Trixter, bassist Greg Smith (Ted Nugent, Rainbow, Alice Cooper), and drummer Chuck Burgi (Rainbow, Blue Oyster Cult)? Well, the '80s melodic rock inspired outfit calling itself Tokyo Motor Fist of course! Frontiers Records is the logical destination for this combo, home to many veteran hard rockers from the '80, and this self-titled debut will instantly take you back to the days when catchy, soaring vocal hooks, masculine swagger, and crunchy anthems were all the rage. Poley for his part hasn't lost a step over the years, his powerful vocals still in fine form on these upbeat rockers, kicking off with the addicting "Pickin' Up the Pieces" and carrying on full force throughout the album. "Shameless" is another blistering anthem with a killer hook, Brown's crisp riffs bringing that arena rock attitude, and his tasty lead work is all over the chugging "You're My Revolution" and the crunchy, Def Leppard inspired "Put Me to Shame". For the ladies who appreciate a soft '80s styled power ballad, look no further than "Love", "Get You Off My Mind", and "Don't Let Me Go", the layers of vocals and lush arrangements a perfect time machine back to 1986 when acts like Survivor and Foreigner were sweeping the airwaves.

Though not breaking any new ground, Tokyo Motor Fist have created a highly listenable & enjoyable collection of hard rock songs here that are instantly memorable, and there's something to be said for that. If you love your rock music with huge choruses, crunchy guitars, and melodies that never quit, this is the album for you.
