Iron Reagan: Crossover Ministry

Bands like this remind us that crossover punk / thrash is particularly welcome during politically turbulent times. What else can put into perspective the absurdities, the posturing, and the arrogance of so much of modern life? With this album, Iron Reagan delivers thirty minutes of relentless, anxious, and playful thrash played in the style of classic bands like D.R.I. and many others. I really enjoyed the vicious satire of "More War," a timely track that highlights the problem of war as business. I also really liked "Power of the Skull," mostly because of the way the shouted chorus "chorus of the skull" just sounded so rad. I'm not sure what that power really is, but consider me compelled. I also laughed out loud when I heard "Parents of Tomorrow" a seven second musical joke. Some could argue a track like this is nothing but filler, but it isn't. Remember when S.O.D. was recording little musical snippets that were both devastating and satirical? That's what "Parents of Tomorrow" is. There's so much to enjoy on this album that I should just stop writing so you can listen. I definitely recommend "Shame Spiral," "More War," "Power of the Skull," "Crossover Ministry," "No Sell," and "Dead With My Friends." I could keep going but you get the idea—this is a good one.
