Accept: Restless and Live - Blind Rage Live In Europe
This is a quick review of the vinyl version of this album. I bought it so I am obviously biased. That said, it's magnificent. Who would have thought when Accept reunited in 2009 with Mark Tornillo on vocals that they would, arguably, be better and stronger than ever? Did the departures of Herman Frank and Stefan Schwarzmann derail their progress? No, most emphatically not. Having caught the band live recently I noted that new guitarist Uwe Lulis takes a bit of a low key role visually but on record you can really hear the interplay between him and Wolf Hoffmann.
The guitar work on this record is a thing of beauty and the mix between the new tunes and the classics is both interesting and well worked out. It is interesting how newer songs such as "Stampede" and the magnificent "Stalingrad" fit snugly alongside tracks such as "London Leatherboys", "Restless and Wild", "Flash Rockin' Man" or "Balls to the Wall" – songs so associated with the Udo Dirkschneider era. Whisper it…but I'd argue that some of the new stuff especially "From the Ashes We Rise", "Pandemic" and "Shadow Soldiers" are as good as anything released under the Accept banner. The LP package comes as limited edition embossed 4 x vinyl box set + poster a 12" photocard but it's the stupendous traditional metal which means that this has barely left my turntable in the last month.
