First things first...This Mortal Road is a damn heavy record. We're talking doom/sludge/post rock heavy here folks, the Boston band Rozamov delivering some lengthy tracks full of heft yet also allowing room for the music to breath in an almost prog-rock sense here on their full length debut. The opening title track is nearly 11-minutes of monolithic guitar riffs, vocals playing only a small role as the rumbling fuzz, lead melody lines, and pounding drums cascade over the listener with wave after wave of thunderous impact. "Wind Scorpion" doesn't deviate much from that formula, as tortured vocals stab through the haze of distorted riff-o-rama (and some well played riffs I might add), giving way to the even more funeral styled dirges of "Serpent Cult". Some cool, lilting guitar chords permeate the undulating epic "Inhumation", the band opting for atmosphere over sheer brute force on this lengthy closer. If I can find one point of contention here, it's that there's a lack of variety, each track so similar to its siblings that they become somewhat indistinguishable from each other, but that's not to take away from what overall is a pretty heavy and powerful record that any doom fan will certainly want to check out.
