Glitch Code: Gifted_Damaged

Glitch Code is the duo of Rachel Harvey (vocals) and Paul Kirkpatrick (keyboards, drum programming, sound creation). They also have help from Julian Todd (bass), David Williamson Smith (drums), Gordon Foley (guitars) and a string section adding violin and viola.

Their new album is titled Gifted_Damaged. The songs are similarly constructed relying on a keyboard/string heavy base, mid-tempo grooves and Harvey's dreamy lead vocals. This is electronic enhanced pop music with shimmering keyboard soundscapes and lush string filled sections. The mood is often melancholic and the melodies are certainly pleasing to listen to. Rhythm guitars are used to add metallic elements to the softer keyboard hued soundscape. The moody guitar work in "Guide Me Home" is really quite good and the darker mood in "Little Pleasures" and "Black Tears" quite foreboding. The electronic treatments in the title track and the more urgent guitar riffs in "Monochromatic" are also worth a listen. Sonically speaking, these tunes are pretty interesting.

The disc comes in various formats. With my version the disc is housed in a hard cover book with a full complement of lyrics and pictures of Harvey in an institutional setting. The photographs complement the music well and help to paint a picture of where these songs are coming from.

Overall, this is a nice package from Glitch Code. Fans of moody electronic pop music should find this interesting.
