Firewind: Immortals

After a 5 year hiatus, Ozzy Osbourne sideman Gus G, is back with his band Firewind and a new album. Immortals is the new 10 track concept release from these Greek Power Metaller's that finds the band aggressively attacking with tasty guitar shredding, infectious and catchy anthems, as well as a matured songwriting. This 44 minutes of Power Metal, traditional Heavy Metal and epic Hard Rock makes for an energetic and melodic ride.

Immortals begins at a breakneck pace with the scorching album opener, "Hands Of Time", that features the vocals of new (old) singer, Henning Basse, who was the singer for Gus G's most recent solo touring band and also the singer for Firewind's Allegiance tour back in 2007. Basse's vocals provide a more classic and rich Metal flavor to this latest batch of driving Firewind metal.

With the availability of being able to take their time with the writing process, Gus G and co. were able to concentrate on keeping their new ideas as strong as possible. Coupled with the conceptual idea of writing about Greek history and the Battles of Thermopylae and Salamis in 480 BC during the second Persian invasion of Greece, Firewind have elevated their game and and have delivered an excellent performance and is easily among Gus G's personal guitar maniac best. Tunes like the instrumental, "Immortals" and the guitar heavy, "Back On The Throne", find Gus tearing it up with nasty riffing and a killer soloing that have become synonymous with the Greek Guitar God and he does not disappoint. This also might be Gus G's best guitar tone to date and the overall sonic landscape of Immortals is just top notch.

Reinvigorated with killer songs and even more power, Firewind have a great record with Immortals. Powerful, guitar heavy and full of melodic Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, Gus G has set course to make a name for himself and Firewind with this latest effort. This is a great Power Metal release to jump start 2017.
