Paying tribute to the late Gregg Williamson are members of the Aussie doom group The Slow Death. The vocalist's band mates have formed the metal band Illimitable Dolor whom are debuting with a self titled album, funeral doom is their thing and going by the masterly constructed four lengthy tracks on this release they do it very well indeed. Illimitable Dolor are influenced by doom bands of the 90's with Evoken, Skepticism, Thergothon, Cruciform, Officium Triste, My Dying Bride, and Ras Algethi. Not all doom groups constantly stick to the low end of the pace scale some do like to mix it up, and whilst Illimitable Dolor surely doesn't break any speed limits as this band is mostly locked in go slow mode for the duration, although track two "Comet Dies or Shines" does get a slight boost. Kicking of with that darkened doom metal of "Rail of Moon, A Stone" Illimitable Dolor introduce us to their atmospheric, mighty and melodic new album complete with haunting vocals. For the next fourty plus minutes the band's material keeps you engaged with appealing inclusions like the keyboards on the "Salt of Brazen Seas". If funeral doom is to your liking then I suspect that Illimitable Dolor will be also.
