Scarecrow: Exterminators of the Year 4000

A few months ago, I started listening to horror surf music. I discovered some terrific new bands and I had a lot of fun experiencing the playful and humorous ways they incorporated cool music, camp, and horror. Scarecrow, though not a horror surf band, does similar things with horror and punk rock. The song titles on this album should give listeners some idea of what to expect. With tracks like "Scream Queen Death Hop" or "Horror of the Beach Party," the band does a good job of showing off their playful and humorous side. In fact, "Horror of the Beach Party" is pretty catchy and has one of those shouted and shared choruses that gives the song extra energy and humor.

The band has been going at it since the new millennium and has no plans of slowing down. With this new album, the band continues to draw on b-horror for inspiration and the music is a combination of heavy punk and something more akin to early rock-influenced punk. In addition to the tracks I've already mentioned, check out "They Live" and "6ore 6ore 6irls," a heavy track with a hilarious title. If you don't know Scarecrow, this is as good an introduction as any.
