Surgikill: Sanguinary Revelations

Hells Headbangers is known for at least two things: intense underground metal and a firm commitment to horror in all its variety. With this release, the label gives Surgikill's debut album the vinyl treatment. Fans of dark and nasty horror metal should definitely check this one out. The music here is right in line with that of bands like Autopsy, Incantation, Repulsion, Terrorizer, and others. Fans of this style will also be happy to know that this band is spearheaded by Stevo from Impetigo, a legendary band that disbanded years ago.

Not surprisingly, the music here is dark and intense. The songs are all inspired by cult movies of a bygone age, the video nasties of the 80s, Italian horror movies, revenge films, and the like. The final track on this album, "Planet of the Vampires," is Surgikill's version of the final song Impetigo ever recorded.

Mario Lopez painted the cover art on this one. Lopez is well known for his artwork for bands like Skeletal Remains, Evil Invaders, and others. His art is always striking and powerful and the art here is no exception.

Overall, I enjoyed this album. Fans will definitely want to check out the aforementioned "Planet of the Vampires" but should also see what else Surgikill can do. This is dark and crazy and disturbing stuff.
