Principality of Hell: Sulfur and Bane

This album features six cover tracks and ten original tracks. At first, I thought the whole album was a selection of covers, but that's just because this band does such a nice job of making music based on the satanic heavy metal of an earlier generation. As the band states, "Our music is an honest testament, directly from the soul of what black metal is actually about—genuine metal music with Satanic spirit and attitude. In other words, if we were 10-12 years older, this is the music which would have been released in 1983-1984." I'll leave it to others to decide what the soul of black metal is actually about, but the music here is pretty consistent with the sound and style of early 80s black metal.

One of the coolest things about Principality of Hell is their relentless musical style. As they push things forward, the music blends darkness with speed. Songs like "Den of the Serpent" are terrific new songs that really honor the past. I also really dug the cover of "Dawn of Megiddo." I had fun listening to this album and I think fans of black metal will enjoy this release as well.
