I find it difficult to take bands like Red Razor seriously. And maybe that's the point of this Brazilian thrash-punk quartet obsessed with beer ("Wish You Were Beer," Beer Revolution"), death ("Cancerous Prelude," "Malignant Cell") and destruction ("Napalm Pizza" and "Shut Up and Mosh"). Although band members cite such influences as Exodus and Slayer, Red Razor's talent is nowhere near the level of those iconic headbangers.
Beer Revolution, the group's first full-length album, might make for a fun first listen (depending on your mood, of course), and Felipe Ferreira's guitar playing is the best thing about this album. Yet Beer Revolution is anything but a revolution, and it's not likely to become a staple of your collection — even if you are a tried-and-true thrasher.
