Hidden Memories: Empirical Fragments

Hidden Memories are an Italian Progressive Metal hat hails from Italy and their debut full length effort, Empirical Fragments (Underground Symphony) contains 9 tracks in the Progressive Metal vein with melody and power.

Tracks like "Insane Equilibrium" showcase a keen sense of melodic structure as well as quality musicianship. Hidden Memories are Filippo Riganti (vocals), Andrea Agliardi (rhythm guitars), Jader Phan Van (lead guitar), Michael Borghi (drums) and Andrea Boccarusso (bass). This lineup has been intact since 2009 and they have been all over their native land playing their original music.

Best described as a cross mix of powerful old school Metal with modern day Prog Metal, Hidden Memories serves up their own brand of Italian Metal with clean soaring vocals with imaginative musical themes. Songs border on modern era Iron Maiden and old school Hammerfall, while their song, "Cerberus" even has a flavor of Tony Martin era Black Sabbath to it. Overall, while technically very good I found myself losing interest within the record. Vocals do soar and also border on the operatic, which can become a tad much. The production is quite solid, so sonically the record is pleasing, but I didn't find Empirical Fragments holding my attention much. Not a bad debut release though.
