Defiled: Towards Inevitable Ruin

Even though Defiled has been going strong for well over ten years, they continue to play as though they were a starving band with little money for studio effects. The result is a raw and fairly honest album that captures the band's sound as though listeners were catching them live. I like the band's overall ethic and I can certainly get behind the idea that what you hear is what you get. The best thing about this album, at least for me, is hearing the power of the drums. Keisuke Hamada's drumming is frantic and taps away like a little machine gun spraying bullets everywhere.

For those who like Technical Death Metal with little pretense, this may be just the thing you are looking for. The album is raw and honest and has some pretty solid tracks. Some listeners may find that the songs are largely cut from the same cloth but it isn't a bad cloth to begin with. I recommend at the very least checking out a few tracks to see whether this band works for you. I especially recommend the title track and "Shadows Hands."

Check out the cover art on this one, too. It's pretty cool.
