Dario Mollo's Crossbones: Rock The Cradle

Italian guitarist Dario Mollo began his career back in 1981 with the band Crossbones, releasing their first album back in 1989. After a varied career that has seen him collaborate with two former Black Sabbath vocalists in Glenn Hughes (on Voodoo Hill) and Tony Martin (on The Cage) along with considerable production work he has resurrected the Crossbones name for this latest release. Joining Mollo in the new version of the band is vocalist Carl Sentance (Nazareth, Persian Risk) and original Crossbones drummer Ezio Secomandi with the line-up completed by long-time collaborator Dario Patti on bass and keyboards.

Heaving riffing and numerous solos are very much in evidence here with the rest of the band largely playing second fiddle to Mollo and even Sentance, a quality melodic vocalist of some repute, relegated to a back-seat role. That is not to the say that the album is not enjoyable and lovers of old school late seventies / early eighties styled classic hard rock will certainly be impressed. The pick of the ten songs has to be the six minute 'Gates of Time' with its classic rock riffing, haunting melodies and dramatic vocals and hard-hitting rockers 'Running from the Shadow' and 'Red' showcasing Mollo's virtuoso guitar work. Another consistent release from the Frontiers label, Rock The Cradle is definitely worth checking out.
