Rivette: In Vertigo

This new trio from Finland is one of those bands that sound bigger than their small number. The music here is probably best described as hard rock. Even though the band started out hoping to create music reminiscent of the debut albums of bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica, they ended up turning to a sound that blends the guitar sound of Dire Straits with heavy elements drawn from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. I'm not sure the overall sound is as genre defying as the band is going for, but there's definitely something here for fans of heavy rock tinged with catchy songwriting. I liked the band's heavier tracks like "Arms of Lightning," mostly because it reminded me of really early Kiss. Overall, I wasn't as taken with this one as others might be. The band certainly has a good sound but I wasn't quite as keen on the overall result.

Track Listing:
1. Outrun the Night
2. Arms of Lightning
3. The String Master
