Night Ranger: 35 Years And A Night In Chicago

There are some people within my circle of friends who dislike Night Ranger and by dislike I mean really, really hate with a passion in a remarkably visceral sense. I have never gotten to the bottom of this somewhat odd situation especially given Night Ranger's decidedly low profile here in the UK and especially given that there is so much to like about the band which currently comprises Jack Blades – bass and vocals, Brad Gillis – guitars, Kelly Keagy – drums and vocals, Eric Levy – keyboards from Chicago Illinois and newest member Keri Kelly – guitars.

"When You Close Your Eyes" is one of the main targets of my friends' opprobrium for some reason and whilst it may be one of the blander tunes in their repertoire it's well-constructed, flawlessly played and has an easily recognizable melody. These, alongside always having tremendous guitar work are the staple qualities of Night Ranger – give "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" a listen for concrete proof of the band's fully committed, powerful melodic classic rock. The newer tracks such as the effervescent "Growin' Up In California" stand up well alongside the classics and whilst the wider world may not be crying out for a Night Ranger live album this will suit fans right down to the ground. Now, how about some UK dates beyond London?
