Nobody would expect Martyrdöd to cover the classic surf song "Wipeout" on this (or any) of their releases. And yet, when I saw the title of the third track on this album, I partly expected a d-beat take on that old number. The band certainly has the drummer for it and the band's melody-driven style could really do something with interesting with that material. Despite my brief fantasy of Martyrdöd cranking out surf music, I'm glad the band didn't go that route. It would have distracted from this album's other qualities and may have taken things in the wrong direction. Better for Martyrdöd to stick with what they do best—creating music that organizes the chaos and gives listeners hope for the future of crusted over hardcore and d-beat craziness. The band's signature sound—strong melodies backed up by dark and crisp punk-infused sound—is just as solid here as ever. Martyrdöd is a dominant force and this album is well worth checking out.
