From Greece comes the stoner rock act Astray, and their new album Beyond the Heights of Lust is now being self-released by the band, containing nine tracks of heavy hitting music for any fan of Orange Goblin, Clutch, Kyuss, and Wo Fat. Filled start to finish with a never ending supply of fuzz toned guitar riffs, Beyond the Heights of Lust, contains plenty of enjoyable tunes that rock the 'heavy' meter into the red, such as "E.D.A.", "Idle Conversation", "Teetotum", and the bruising "WIT(HC)". The dual guitar attack of Kostas & Jellys provide the albums firepower, their distorted crunch-o-rama even coming close to classic Down & CoC territory on the instrumental groove laden doom gem "Huh?", with the rhythm section of bassist Tolis and drummer Apostolis pounding away underneath. Lead singer George has a voice that perfectly fits this type of music, his Ozzy-meets-Phil Anselmo styled pipes stabbing though the smoky haze of riffage on the energetic rumblings of "Cast My Stone" in fine fashion.
Beyond the Heights of Lust doesn't look to reinvent the stoner metal scene, but it sure is a more than solid release that any fan of heavy music will want to investigate.
