To coincide with Herman Frank's excellent new The Devil Rides Out release, AFM Records are also reissuing a few of his previous albums with bonus tracks. Loyal to None was his 2009 debut, and the Accept/Victory guitar slinger let it all hang out on this blistering classic metal affair. Joining Frank on this rousing debut were the very capable line-up of Jiotis Paracharidis (Vocals),
Peter Pichl (Bass), and Stefan Schwarzmann (Drums).
The formula here is pretty simple; super crunchy riffs, shredding guitar solos, jackhammer rhythms, and powerful, leather lunged vocals. All the songs are super memorable and deliver a non-stop assault of metal goodness, such as the raging "7 Stars", the massive wall of crunch that is "Moon II", the moody yet anthemic "Heal Me", the groove laden heavy rocker "Kill the King" (no, not the Rainbow song), and the blistering power metal thumpers "Down to the Valley" and "Bastard Legions". "Metal Gods" (no, not the Judas Priest classic!) will get you playing air guitar and thrusting your fist to the heavens, and the bonus cut "Sky Trooper" is just a real good metal track with ripping pinch harmonics from Frank, though the sound quality is demo at best.
Killer guitar work, superhuman vocals, and instantly memorable songs permeate Loyal to None, a tremendous 2009 debut from a German guitar hero and his talented band. They would follow this up with Right in the Guts three years later, another sizzling platter of vintage heavy metal, but that's a story for another day.
