Okkultokrati: Raspberry Dawn

Describing Okkultokrati has never been easy but with this album, that task gets even harder. It isn't so much that the band changed its sound but that it's added even more synthesizers—and even some catchy moments—to its fuzzed out guitars, irreverence for convention, and punk rock attitude. I've heard people compare aspects of this band to the music of Iggy Pop. That's a fair connection even though I tend to hear a little more Venom, especially in the vocals. Rather than play a game of mix and match, however, let's just say that Okkultokrati plays some of the strangest, most eclectic, punk-infused music I've heard. It's enjoyable but it also takes a little more work than some listeners will want to give it. I found much to enjoy here; tracks like "World Peace," "We Love You," and "Magic People" were good, as was "Suspension" even though it is one of the weirdest, most spaced-out, tracks on the album. Check it out if you are looking for something out of the ordinary.
