Grossmann, Hannes: The Crypts of Sleep

The second solo album by Hannes Grossmann (Alkaloid, Blotted Science, Hate Eternal, ex-Obscura, ex-Necrophagist) is blistering and ambitious. Grossmann plays drums on every track and his style is no less powerful and precise than ever. His style is fast and energetic and it finds fills and beats anywhere and everywhere he can. Grossmann's playing has long been praised. He can play multiple musical styles and even released an educational book on how to play extreme metal drums. On this album his playing is as powerful as ever.

The other musicians on this album include Morean, Danny Tunker, Linus Lausenitzer, Christian Muenzner, Fountainhead, Per Nilsson, and Erik Rutan. I won't list all the bands these musicians are associated with. Suffice it to say that Grossmann gathered together an excellent blend of talented and energetic musicians, all of whom bring their very best to this album. The songs are mostly cut from the same cloth but the sound and style are always impressive and powerful. I've already mentioned the quality of the drumming on this album but the guitars are just as strong. I was amazed at the overall clarity of the sound, especially on the lead parts. This release will definitely appeal to guitar fans as well as drum fans. The songwriting is also solid. This is an exciting and impressive new release from a talented and influential young musician. Recommended.
