Electric Moon: Theory Of Mind

Here is some space rock/psychedelic goodness from Germany. Electric Moon formed in 2009 and have thus far released four studio albums and various compilations. This is a review of their 2015 release Theory Of Mind recorded live at the Kosmodrom in Heidelberg, Germany. Besides the single CD you can also find Theory Of Mind on a double LP. The band is led by Sula Bassana (guitar, Casio, effects) and is joined by his cohorts Marcus Schnitzler (drums) and Komet Lulu (fuzz-bass, effects, synthesizer).

The album consists of four extended jams that pretty much define the space rock genre. This is as trippy as it gets folks and I enjoyed every minute of it. The first track "Hypnotika" is just that; hypnotic trance-like effects and electronics that ebb and flow before waves of intensity take the soundscape in a heavier direction. The beat is kept at a slower pace with some nice fills and as the music progresses the guitars become heavier with huge fuzzed out tones and undulating chords. The crescendos are intense and the psychedelic nature of this band comes to a head with a barrage of noise and intense guitar work. This sounds especially trippy on headphones. The title track begins with cleaner guitar sounds and cymbal taps before venturing into thick synthesizer and wild guitar noise. What you get is almost twenty minutes of psychedelic music at its glorified best. Carrying on, "The Picture" has a doomy feel with heavy fuzz and effects coursing through its veins and the last track "Aerosoul" starts with a lighter ambience before knife cutting riffs rip through the tension building soundscape.

Some might be put off by the jam-like repetitiveness here but I found myself really enjoying this with a trance-like state of mind. Really mind altering stuff that is worth a listen for anyone mildly interested in the genre. Released on Sulatron Records.
