Hardline: Human Nature

Hardline have been around a long time evolving from being a sunset strip sensation featuring brothers Johnny (vocals) and Joey (guitar) Gioeli to a supergroup of sorts featuring former Bad English members Neal Schon and Deen Castronovo, before finally becoming a band showcasing the incredible talents of the fabulous singer Johnny Gioeli with the production and songwriting skills of Alessandro Del Vecchio (Rated X, Resurrection Kings, Revolution Saints), the shredding talents of guitarist Josh Ramos (The Storm), and the powerful rhythm section made up of bassist Anna Portalupi (Tarja) and drummer Francesco Jovino (Primal Fear, Jorn). Whether or not one personally agrees with this line-up being as authentic as the one with Schon and Castronovo is a moot point given that both of those chaps have no need whatsoever of being in Hardline right now.

Human Nature is fortunately a very good album with some cracking tunes including the epic title track which is one of the better power ballads of recent years replete with big drum breakdown towards the end. Arguably the band have moved closer to the hard rock/metal edge of AOR in their new guise and in tunes such as "Trapped in Muddy Waters" (which adds blues to the mix), "Where Will We Go From Here" and "Running On Empty". This is no bad thing and at the very least Hardline don't sound like they are re-treading old ground and should be applauded for this.
