Leaves' Eyes: Fires in The North (EP)

I remember that I spent some time during my trip to Mallorca this past Easter following a supremely unedifying split between former Leaves' Eyes vocalist Liv Kristine and the rest of the band. The Twitterati quickly took sides – almost as quickly as the band moved on with new singer Elina Siirala, they have toured extensively since and this EP bridges the gap before a new album with Elina. The title track is a brand new song, featured in both a regular and an acoustic version and is fine if not exceptional in both versions. In addition, the EP includes three songs from the band's latest album King of Kings in new versions (feat. Elina on vocals). "Edge of Steel" was one of the standout tracks from that album and Elina's attempts do not suffer in comparison with her predecessor and the band definitely has a future with their new singer on this evidence. Hopefully both sides on this sad split will be able to put forth more quality music in the future.
