Serpent Crown: Incantations of Vengeance

One of my favorite things about Serpent Crown is their cover art. The first release had a medusa on the cover and this one has another menacing female figure, this one holding a bloodied knife in her hands. As with the last release, the music here is mostly thrash metal with a mix of sludge and doom thrown in. Although I wasn't overly fond of the last release, I liked what Serpent Crown was doing in general and I really admired Dara Santhai's vocals and guitar work.

This album is stronger than the last one; the sound is clearer and the songwriting is better. Santhai's vocals stand out once again, as does her guitar playing. "Vengeance of the Witch" has some nice harmonies and the guitar sound is solid. I also loved the thrashing on "Uncertain Life Certain Death" and "Conjurings of the Damned." Santhai's vocals are harsh and raspy and suit the music well. Check this one out, especially if you are looking for a new band that knows how to thrash. This release is available on cassette and digital. Don't miss tracks like "Bloodmoon" and "Uncertain Life Certain Death."
