Marcello, Kee: Scaling Up

Guitarist Kee Marcello, who is best known as the guy who replaced the amazing John Norum in the band Europe back in the mid 80's, has returned with a new solo release entitled Scaling Up. Marcello (who also handles the vocals) delivers some fantastic guitar pyro on this new record, as one would expect, showing that he hasn't lost a step with his prowess and also shows a lot of confidence in his singing abilities.

Written and recorded in the late Winter and early Spring of 2016, Scaling Up encompasses the musical history of Kee Marcello and is filled with classic fueled Hard Rock with heavy handed guitar wrangling in every lead break. All of Kee's Blues and Classical runs are on full display, but so is his songwriting. Tunes like the groovy "Wild Child" or the sleaze and attitude of "On The Radio" hearkens back to the glorious 80's and the excess of the time. And an 80's themed record wouldn't be complete without the lyrical guitar intro of the obligatory ballad that is "Finger On The Trigger".

Kee Marcello is a fabulous Scandinavian Guitar Hero and he has delivered a masterful guitar performance on Scaling Up coupled with some good tunes that have that great 80's feel. His vocals are also quite good as are the 12 songs that make up this record. Are the songs groundbreaking? No, but they do have that feel good quality about them and that's what the 80's were all about.
