As one of the original quartet of legendary German thrash titans that also included Kreator, Destruction, and Tankard, the band known as Sodom of course need no introduction. With a career now spanning close to 35 years, Sodom have blazed a trail that includes a healthy discography and a boatload of tours. Decision Day is the bands latest platter of metal mayhem for Steamhammer/SPV, and sees the line-up of Tom Angelripper (bass, vocals), Bernemann (guitars) and Markus "Makka" Freiwald (drums) once again delivering the goods, 11 tracks of violent, vintage styled Teutonic thrash. With a never ending supply of manic drumming, crunchy riffs, blazing solos, and Tom's trademark gravelly vocals, Decision Day puts forth energetic tracks like "In Retribution", "Rolling Thunder", "Who is God", "Belligerence", and "Blood Lions", all enjoyable tunes that stack up well against the rest of the Sodom repertoire. However, there's also some mighty fine mid paced crushers here, such as "Sacred Warpath", "Strange Lost World", and the excellent title track that offer a bit of variety here on Decision Day, showing the band know how to crank out more than just speedy thrash.
While I might not classify Decision Day as a bona fide classic at the level of Persecution Mania, Agent Orange, or M-16, it's still an extremely solid album that sees the German thrash metal machine still with plenty of life left in the tank and showing no signs of slowing down.
