Company Corvette, The: Never Enough
For some reason, I thought this album would be mostly hardcore punk rock. It was the cover art for this album that threw me off. Look at it: the woman on the couch is a complete mess. Her floor and couch are littered with empty pill bottles and she is cradling a rather dead looking pair of cats. Those details alone told me that this would be an album castigating the current state of things in America.
I was mistaken. This band is not hardcore but is a stoner rock and metal band. The riffs are heavy, the wah pedal is on, and the vocals are paranoid. The music is familiar, but it's the good kind of familiar. Some of the solos on this album are screeching with power and fury in ways I haven't heard for a long time. As I write this, I'm listening to "The Stuff," an excellent track that certainly deserves hearing.
For those unfamiliar with The Company Corvette, it basically started as a project dedicated to playing music and having fun. As the band got better, its members began seeking opportunities to perform for others. As a result, The Company Corvette has shared the stage with bands like Pentagram, Windhand, Weedeater, and others. The music on this release is terrific. It's washed out stoner metal and it sounds amazing. Listen especially to "Devilwitch" and "The Stuff." I also have to mention the longer closing track, "Pigeon." It's like a stoner version of a Rush song; I'm serious. It's like "La Villa Strangiato" on a really weird night.
