Released earlier in the year, the curious mix that makes up Curious Attraction by The House Of Ghosts is only just coming to the attention of SoT. Incorporating some 80s electric into a gothic framework and adding a slice of dreamy pop, categorising this bunch of British Midlanders is a tough task.
However with the wide ranging and powerful – although she never feels the need to overplay anything – vocals from Gina Stone proving intoxicatingly enticing, the big riff of opener "Pulse" ensures you immediately take notice. That urgency never really reappears, however you get the feeling that's intentional, what with the more gently meandering themes that flow after providing a nicely varied journey through "Drowning" and "Magnetic".
The production on this four track (five if you include a radio edit of the aforementioned "Drowning") is more than a little bass heavy in places and the songs' attack, in a production sense, could be sharper. However with forceful song writing, interesting lyrics and the ability to keep you fully engrossed by the storytelling nature of their music, The House Of Ghosts Curious Attraction proves more than aptly named.
