The Dead Daisies: Make Some Noise

Here we have the third album by hard rock & metal supergroup The Dead Daisies, titled Make Some Noise, which follows the critically acclaimed Revolucion from 2015. Some changes to the line-up though this time around, as vocalist Jon Stevens has been replaced by ex-Motley Crue/The Scream belter John Corabi, guitarist Richard Fortus & keyboard player Dizzy Reed have both flown the coop to join the reformed Guns 'n' Roses, hotshot guitar slinger Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake/Dio) joins the fray, which is rounded out by guitarist David Lowy (Mink), bassist Marco Mendoza (Whitesnake/Thin Lizzy), and drummer Brian Tichy (Ozzy/Whitesnake/Foreigner). Featuring 10 memorable originals and two covers, Make Some Noise is a cohesive, fun set of hard rock & metal, and easily one of this summers surprising hits.

Corabi for his part sounds great, his gritty tone a perfect foil for these melodic yet hard hitting tunes, especially the trio of "Long Way to Go", "We All Fall Down", and "Song and a Prayer" which open up the album. Much like vintage Aerosmith, Montrose, or Van Halen, these songs are steeped in catchy melodies, tight grooves, and plenty of guitar thunder from Aldrich & Lowy. "Mainline" reminds of vintage UFO with its speedy rhythms and menacing guitar licks, while the title track is pure '80s styled hard rock anthem all the way, led by the commanding pipes of Corabi and Tichy's pounding drum fills. "Last Time I Saw the Sun" has a bluesy, boogie swagger that again reminds of vintage Aerosmith, and both "How Does it Feel" and "All the Same" unleash some scorching riffage from the guitar duo once again, each one memorable hard rockers with plenty of groove. Make Some Noise also contains two cover tunes, a rousing version of CCR's "Fortunate Son" and The Who's "Join Together". The latter is fun, but it's the former that really impresses, the band kicking the John Fogerty classic up a notch for what should be a sure fire live barnburner.

With no sappy ballads anywhere in sight, Make Some Noise is a hard rocking good time from an all star collective who seem to be having a blast creating new music together. Honestly, I didn't expect to like this is much as I did, but The Dead Daisies have put together a perfect summertime soundtrack for your next heavy rock road trip. Well done guys!
