I.C.E.: Apocalyptic End In White

Galloping glaciers unholy warrior of northern darkness, this frozen raging slab of black metal fury could get hardly any better than. With riffs that nibble at your brain like flames of warmth that taunt a frostbite victim in his hour of need and vocals that sound exactly like the crackle and pop your head in a barrel that you lean over to shake winter's frost from your precious phalange tips, this do-jobby manages to write a new, sans-silliness chapter in black metal. Rather than strapping on the bullet belts and preaching about how it will all end in fire, then giving listeners the gas-soaked rags and book of matches by which they can begin that process, I.C.E. (which stands for––get ready––this: Imperial Crystalline Entombment) predicts that the world will have a cold, bitter end and writes lyrics that outline the whole freakin' plan. While it's hard to know how seriously we should take the words to "Glacial Lyckanthropic Horde" (which sounds like the title of a story rejected from a high school fantasy/horror 'zine) or "Apocalyptic Blizzard Regime," the music is some topnotch freeze, at times stunning and always dynamic with plenty of bite, sting and zeal. One listen (in case you haven't honed in on the rave factor of this review) and you'll exclaim, "Do you realize the street value of this snow!?" Best stuff includes "Astral Frost Invocation" and the almost Wagnerian majesty of "Behold The Frozen Arctic Kingdom."
