Throttlerod: Turncoat

Throttlerod has routinely mixed things up over the years, whether through changes in lineup, sound, or style. The biggest difference here is hiring J. Robbins, a producer best known for his work with Clutch, The Sword, and others. Robbins seems to have helped Throttlerod draw out a sound that is a mixture of heavy rock and swaggering vibe. Some listeners will no doubt be surprised by the band's sound on this release but it isn't as radical a change as some might think. The best thing about this album is the way the music is played. Some of the songs are more interesting than others but the band routinely sounds good. Kevin White's drumming is especially strong. I listened to several of the tracks just focusing on the power of the drums. As for individual tracks, I especially liked "Turncoat," "Cops and Robbers," and "Breadwinner."
