Vibrating Universe: Birth Of Truth

Another nice surprise has hit my CD player in the form of New Jersey band Vibrating Universe and their debut album Birth Of Truth. The band was formed by brothers David and Brian Pardine and some of this music dates back to the mid to late '90s. The full band is David Pardine (lead, backing and spoken word vocals), Brian Pardine (lead, backing and harmony vocals, keyboards), Derrick Klybish (lead, rhythm and bass guitars) and Derek Schildkraut (drums and percussion).

The music takes elements of '60 psychedelia such as The Beatles and Moody Blues and more alternative forms such as The Smashing Pumpkins and have created a rather unique and very satisfying sound. The lead and background vocals are certainly high points as both vocalists have a laid back and unhurried approach. This vocal style is a great match to the overall cosmic spaciness of the music. The guitar work from Klybish also deserves to be noted. The keyboards are mostly used as layering which further enhances the band's dreamy laid back sound. Although this is quite a mellow album the music is quite dense and there is enough happening to warrant repeated listens. On "Lost In Black" and "What It Seems" the band kick it up a couple notches with some vibrant guitar work amidst the dense cosmic flow of sound. Other tracks such as the Dreamy "Young Love" and the spacy "Just Passing Through" prefer a more gentler approach. The bluesy guitar riffs in the catchy "Realm Of Skin" and the irresistible melodic rock of "Rituals" are other high points.

The entire package is divided among two discs labeled 'Perpetual Paradox' and 'Infinite Invitation' respectively. Both discs are excellent so there is a lot of great music for any progressive rock fan to discover. The second disc is just a tad heavier adding that extra dimension to the band's enchanting soundscapes. I am very impressed with Birth Of Truth. Hopefully the band can garner more attention and get picked up by a label as they so surely deserve the opportunity. Please support the band and give this one a listen. You just might be as surprised as I was.
