Guitarist/composer Horace Bray resides in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and recently released his debut album Dreamstate. He is joined by band mates Mike Luzecky (bass), Colin Campbell (keyboards) and drummers Matt Young and Conner Kent. The title of the album certainly fits the music as this is a serene and gentle jazz album. Bray's guitar tone and depth of field is impressive, especially for such a young guitarist. His fluidic playing and artistic flair puts a stamp on all ten tracks beginning with the perky "Laumeier" showcasing smooth electric piano and Bray's snazzy guitar runs. "Laumeier Outro" is more slow and serene as is the haunting "Living With Imperfection". The mesmerizing wordless vocals and shifting time signatures in the lovely "3 4 5", the dreamy and artful "Mellifluous", the percussive laden "The Mind As A Brittle Object" and the orchestral jazz of "Semantic Satiation" are more highlights.
Bray has crafted a fine jazz album with Dreamstate, demonstrating a maturity and level of play beyond his years. Very impressive and easily recommended to any and all fans of guitar led jazz.
