CardiaC: Sangrar Hasta Lograrlo

Like many other bands, CardiaC blends multiple styles of extreme music into one relatively seamless whole. Fans will quickly recognize a combination of rock'n'roll, hardcore, heavy metal, and stoner metal on display here. At times, I could swear I even hear a few nods to classic bands like Krokus. The songwriting is generally very good and the musical performances are clear and solid. I was especially impressed with "Adicto a la Vida," a track that really showed off the band at its best. Musically, the band holds things together by creating—and maintaining—an enduring groove. There are moments when CardiaC finds that perfect space where the music just makes you want to move. Even though some listeners may not like either the band's wavering between styles, including forays into clean vocals, CardiaC simply keeps things moving along deliberately and passionately.

Aside from this band's solid groove, it also has a terrific lead singer named Ricardo Chimichanga. His voice is deep and rich (though often harsh) and adds excellent textures to the music as a whole. He also does a good job mixing clean and dirty vocals in ways that sound authentic and interesting. Normally, I find such back-and-forth styles annoying but this was an exception. I have a few albums with vocals performed entirely in Spanish but this one definitely stands out from the rest. Technically solid, entertaining, and heavy, this new release should find many happy listeners.
