Freeman, James: Echoes of Nature III

I have heard a lot of enjoyable music so far in 2016 but unfortunately Echoes of Nature III will not be included in that list. The music here is a mixture of acoustic and electronic sounds with a heavy use of field recordings (birds and animal sounds) that just doesn't work for me. Too much of a feeling of being in the woods and not enough melody to keep this one together. There is no doubt the musicians are very capable and their use of viola, violins, flute, piccolo and synthesizers is quite imaginative but the unending improvised sounds travels too much into the avant-garde for my ears to latch on to. If, however, you enjoy smatterings of acoustic guitar along with the heavy use of strings, sax and flute in a very loose musical setting, by all means give this one a listen. As for me, I likely won't be listening to this again any time soon.

Echoes Of Nature III is an Edgetone Records release.
