Mausoleum Gate: Metal and the Might

Despite the very "Mr. Crowley-ish" opening keyboard flourish, this two-track 7" vinyl release from Finland's Mausoleum Gate picks up where their self-titled debut left off two years ago, once again delivering some classic '70s heavy rock and NWOBHM styled mayhem. Thick, chunky guitar riffs, high pitched vocals, and tumbling rhythms support the frantic title track, and song that begs to be longer, and the band slows down for some moody Uriah Heep influenced heavy rock & prog on the wonderful "Demon Soul". Spooky keys permeate the latter, a haunting number that sees vocalist V-P. Varpula channeling the late Heep singer David Byron amid some heavy riffs, stinging lead guitar solos, Mellotron, and powerful Hammond C-3 organ. Once these two tracks are over, you'll be craving more, so hopefully we won't have to wait long for another full platter of vintage styled sounds from this very solid band.
