Symphonic metal is one exciting sub-genre that sure isn't starved of talented groups with names like Therion, Kamelot, Epica, Nightwish and Dark Moor who between them have recorded some of the best albums that the sub-genre has to offer. So with the bar set so high any new band certainly has their work cut out for them, and here we have such an Italian group and their debut album Verses. The melodic metal group in question is called Rainveil who are obviously fans of symphonic metal. Opening track "Macabre Ecstasy" is very impressive as the band incorporates that symphonic music with powerful guitar riffs and somewhat appealing clean vocals and the soaring guitar solo sure hits the spot. Those heavy riffs play a sizeable part in Rainveil's sound adding to the appeal of strong numbers like "Brake Out" and again on "Drowned". Despite the occasional tempo lift "Elanore" is the only express track on Verses though it is hardly a rapid speedster, the band does seems quite comfortable in that mid pace/slow tempo range and Ranveil do it very well.
