Now 25 years into their career, Greek traditional heavy metal act Marauder continue to deliver the goods with their sixth studio album for Pitch Black Records, titled Bullethead. With one change since their last album Elegy of Blood, the band have a new lead singer in Nikos (Mygas) Antonogiannakis, who now joins guitarists Andreas Tsaoussis & George Sofronas, bassist Theodore Paralis, and drummer Greg Vlachos for the revamped line-up of Marauder. As for the music, the bands mantra of "FOR US, METAL IS ENOUGH!" has not changed one bit, as evident by fist pumping fare such as "Son of Thunder", "Metal Warriors", "Spread Your Wings", and "Dark Legion", each one chock full of super crunch-o-rama riffing and anthem ready choruses. "Predators" and "The Fall" should easily appeal to any fan of Accept, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, and Judas Priest, while "Shadowman" sees the band injecting some epic melodies, soaring vocals, and driving rhythms into their attack that's not far removed from what we would expect from a band such as Grand Magus.
For no frills, classic styled heavy metal, you really can't go wrong with Bullethead. While Marauder certainly haven't recreated the wheel here and delivered an album brimming with originality, there's a sense of power & conviction seeping through each and every song, not to mention that vintage metal sound that so many fans love, that makes Bullethead a no brainer to recommend.
