Abnormality: Mechanisms of Omniscience

Here we have the latest Metal Blade release from Massachusetts death metal horde Abnormality, titled Mechanisms of Omniscience. Pretty cool name for an album, as are the song titles, and led by the monstrous growling of Mallika Sundaramurthy, the band's music is just as potent. Completing the line-up are guitarists Jeremy Henry & Sam Kirsch, bassist Josh Staples, and drummer Jay Blaisdell, the five piece taking their love for Deeds of Flesh, Suffocation, Origin, Immolation, and Hate Eternal and creating a monstrous slab of death metal with this brand new release. Malika's growls are fierce and deadly, her inhuman venom spewing over some massive riffing and blazing blast beats on such brutal tracks as "Vigilant Ignorance", "Synthetic Pathogenesis", and the punishing title cut. Great to hear some old school lead guitar work throughout the album as well, as both players mix in some complex riffery & screaming pinch harmonics with tasty legato runs and frantic whammy bar explorations. "Irreversible" and "Hopeless Masses" are two other pulverizing examples of raging, technical death metal, Mallika's brutal growls hitting like a sledgehammer to the face as jackhammer blasting and undulating riffs mash the rest of your body to a bloody pulp.

Mechanisms of Omniscience is a seriously good set of death metal from a band that are the cusp of greatness. If you haven't yet discovered Abnormality, now's the time.
