Project Alcazar: Chasin' Voodoo

It's so frustrating when listening to a new release and finding that the music is just so captivating that you are completely immersed in proceedings, but then that attraction is diminished rapidly by the introduction of vocals that are far less appealing. No such problems here with the latest instrumental album by Project Alcazar. Some time ago the band Alcazar was created by Chris Steberl, and the name would eventually be changed to Project Alcazar. A highly talented guitarist from Columbus Ohio Chris Steberl was introduced to the guitar at quite a young age and as Chris progressed he was drawn to the playing of Eddie Van Halen, the metal scene and later came other rock/metal shredders including Yngwie Malmsteen and Tony Macalpine.

Chris also performs the keyboards on this album and those other participants are drummer Doug Bryant and bass player Matt Cistone. The album that I am referring to is Chasin' Voodoo the guitarist's latest recording as there have been prior releases, the last Reasons for a Decade was released all the way back in 2001. Reasons for a Decade included original material plus Chris put his spin on the classical works of Mozart, Vivaldi and Mussorgsky. That album not only heightened Chris's reputation as a fine guitarist his song writing ability impressed also.

I have little doubt that Chasin' Voodoo will be received with the same amount enthusiasm if not more so. If your looking for a jam packed neo classical shred fest you won't find it here as Chasin' Voodoo is geared more towards addictive guitar orientated rockers like the excellent title track as Chris's harmonious guitar work hits the spot. With the upbeat Satriani style rocking tune "At Any Rate" and those fine feelgood groovers this is one you'll go back to again and again. Chasin' Voodoo delivers with quality instrumentals and will appeal to fans of Joe Satriani, Vinnie Moore and other similar top guitarists.
