Now eight studio albums into their career, Germany's Desaster show no signs of slowing their ability to create tuneful yet crushing extreme metal with the release of The Oath of an Iron Ritual for Metal Blade Records. With a line-up that consists of guitarist Infernal, vocalist Sataniac, drummer Tormentor, and bassist Odin (great names all!!), Desaster have concocted 10 piledriving tracks here that bridge the gap between early black metal and classic thrash, complete with razor sharp riffing, breakneck drum blasts, and venomous vocal snarls. Thing is, so many of these songs have significant hooks, whether it be super catchy riffs or irresistible grooves. Just give a listen to "End of Tyranny" or "Proclamation in Shadows", two great examples of the bands 'blackened thrash 'n' roll' style that has plenty to offer the listener. The band add in some epic, almost proggy elements on the lengthy "Haunting Siren", a bit of doom & classic metal to the juggernaut "The Denial", and majestic, riff-a-licious fury on the powerhouse closer "At the Eclipse of Blades". Of course, if it's just raging neck snappers you crave, dig right into "The Cleric's Arcanum", "Conquer & Contaminate", and the crushing title track for some violent, brutal moments.
With stellar production (HUGE guitar sound!), The Oath of an Iron Ritual is a massive sounding album, these songs coming across as epic statements of pure heavy metal. Desaster have fully arrived with this one, so make sure you don't miss it!
