From Blue to Black is the latest neck-snapper from Spanish thrash upstarts Crisix, featuring nine songs chock full of attitude, blazing guitar riffs, manic drumming, and a mix of Bay Area & German influenced vocal styles. That's right, imagine if you will the glory days when Exodus, Heathen, Metallica, Megadeth, Destruction, and Kreator ruled the thrash roost, their brand of speedy heavy metal taking the underground scene by storm and bringing it to the mainstream. This is the vibe that Crisix go for here on From Blue to Black, but of course with a modern twist, giving songs like "G.M.M. (The Great Metal Motherfucker)", "Journey Through Fire", and "Psycho Crisix World" plenty of flair with their 'old-school with a touch of new' approach. Frantic riffing abounds, especially on the raging title track, "Conspiranoia", and the chugging "Five as One", and while the vocals, a blend of high pitched shrieks, growls, and gang shouts, are easily the weakest attribute of the bands sound, they do match up with the frantic nature of these songs. In short, From Blue to Black is a solid enough thrash affair, and what it lacks in originality it more than makes up for it with sheer aggression and competent musicianship.
