Retrogore is the perfect title for this album, and in fact, the title cut is one of the catchiest death metal/grind tracks I've heard in quite some time, despite the fact that it's so damn brutal, but yet so much fun at the same time. Of course, we are talking about Aborted, the kingpins of gore grind over the last two decades, and Retrogore offers up no surprises but delivers everything you want and need from these ferocious, putrid bashers. "Cadaverous Collection", "Whoremageddon", "Bit By Bit", "Coven of Ignorance", and "The Mephitic Conundrum" all contain a relentless barrage of tumultuous drum blasting, massive riffing, blazing leads, gore drenched lyrics, and a wealth of guttural growls & maniacal screams, all Aborted trademarks of course. Occasionally, the band slows down a tad, as on the grueling "Divine Impediment" and the creepy "In Avenus", but if you are a fan, it's the rampaging death grind assault of "From Beyond (The Grave)" and "Forged for Decrepitude" that makes for the appeal of any Aborted platter.
Like I mentioned above, it's hard to describe something this brutal as being 'fun', but that's exactly what Retrogore is, a tried and true example of just what Aborted do best. It's a bloody good time, so if you've followed this band for years, this latest will push all the right buttons for you.
