Who says Canada can't get in on the stoner/doom/biker blues rock fun? Here we have Southern Ontario's Gypsy Chief Goliath and their brand new one for Pitch Black Records, titled Citizens of Nowhere, 11 tracks of meaty, fuzz & booze soaked bliss for any fan of Black Sabbath, Down, Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash, and Crowbar. Boasting a three-pronged guitar attack, Citizens of Nowhere packs some serious thunder throughout, especially on "Holding Grace", "Black Samurai", "Elephant in the Room", "Odyssey", "We Died For This", and the killer title track, all doomy, bluesy riff monsters with a healthy amount of groove. "Witchcraft for the Ages" is another crusher, this one an instrumental, with heavy riffs and pounding rhythms battling it out with some harmonica. The harmonica does pop up in spots, not always fitting in perfectly, but it certainly adds that bluesy touch that the band were going for. There's even a fun take on Sabbath's "Killing Yourself to Live", with Al Yeti Bone's gruff, effects laden vocal giving it a different spin from the original, and the band toss in some sizzling guitar solos with a Southern Rock flair. Fun stuff for sure. For those that worship the almighty riff, Citizens of Nowhere is a can't miss collection of sweaty, heavy rocking tunes that packs plenty of brute force, so be sure to investigate this one.
